NOVEMBER 3, 2012, saw 30 beautiful and intelligent undergraduates representing their various tertiary institutions at the 6th World Miss University Nigeria Contest, campaigning and discussing pressing global issues that affect their various campus communities and mankind in general.

The much anticipated event actually lived up to its billing as the contestants were at their creative best to impress the judges and win the support of the audience.

However, it was stylish and pretty ?Tobi Phillips, representing University of Lagos (UNILAG) that won the desirable crown. Besides her impressive showings on stage, she scooped 6065 votes before camping during the online voting. Four other queens were crowned as runners-up.

During their stay at the Golden Tulip in Festac, Lagos, the delegates went on a visit to some orphanages and Climate Change Office, Amuwo-Odofin LGA. They were trained on Peace and Environmental issues by the organizing committee/ Educationists to render voluntary services such as, Clean and Green Nigeria, and little donation in terms of cash, first-aid materials and other things to the less privileged.

The contestants further campaigned on the theme: “Stop Global Warming,” during their stay in camp.

The World Miss University Nigeria contest took place in grand style at the Golden Tulip Hotel November 3 where Miss Tobi Abigail Phillips, a 400 level Marine Sciences student of UNILAG University of Lagos, emerged as the 6th WMUN 2012 Queen out of the lot with her poise, good command of English and presentation on Rape/Sexual Violence.

She is currently the 6th Nigerian Student Peace Ambassador to the United Nations and Goodwill Ambassador to the International Vaccine Institute (IVI).

In her capacity as the WMUN 2012, 20-year-old Ambassador Tobi Phillips, an indigene of Okitipupa in Ondo state, would be representing Nigeria at the MWUN International pageant in Korea on November 28 to vie for the MWUN International title.

“Right now I’m trying to prepare for the World Miss University finale in South Korea. When I come back, I will start work on my project- Clean and Green Environment to Check Global Warming,” she told The Guardian.

On what she aims to accomplish during her one-year reign, Tobi said: “I hope I would have been able to impact on students in the university and in tertiary institutions to stay away from cultism and keep out of all social vices. I would also reach out to the environment at large to help contribute to a clean and green environment by stopping deforestation and improving on afforestation through planting more trees in the environment.”
